Cornerstone Christian Church located in Pierce, Nebraska is a newly formed non- denominational local Christian church. In April of this year, the congregation voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. Through much prayer, discussion and discernment, the decision was made in light of the current worldwide split of the denomination over issues of theology. We are a group of 30-40 adults who are seeking God’s Word as contained in the Holy Bible to help us put a firm foundation in place for generations to come. The average age of our congregants is 35-40 with nearly a 12-15 children and youth regularly in attendance.
We are located in a town of 1,800 people that is 20 minutes from Norfolk, a city of 25,000 which has a regional hospital, numerous restaurants and shopping opportunities. Pierce is a great place to raise a family, has a great school system, and recreational opportunities such as Willow Creek State Park and Gilman city Park, pool, and arboretum.
While we have been without Pastoral leadership since July of 2021, we have dedicated lay persons leading worship and organizing a variety of speakers, many from First Christian Church in Norfolk. Our pastor, Rodgers Chishiba, was with us for 7 years until being re-appointed by the Great Plains Conference of the UMC to Colby, KS where he serves a larger congregation. We grew greatly in our faith and understanding of scripture while he was with us and we were sad to see him relocated by the Bishop. Our sanctuary and basement classrooms are nearly 140 years old but our large Fellowship Hall was built in the 1990’s and is used for a variety of ministries and events. Our current vision statement is “Fellowship, Grow, Love, and Mature in Christ.” We chose our new name with inspiration from Acts 4: 11-12 which says, “For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejectd has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Our current ministries include: Sunday morning worship followed by coffee and fellowship for adults and Sunday School for students age 3-Grade 6.
We are a strong, unified congregation with hopes for a weekly attendance of 75-100 persons praising and serving God together, while making disciples of Jesus.
