The Beginning of a new beginning: Through much prayer, discussion, pain and
discernment and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, a new church was birthed at 222
W. Nebraska St., Pierce NE in the fall of 2022. On April 27, 2022 a large gathering of
members, in the presence of UMC District Superintendent, Nancy Tomlinson, voted to
officially disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. This decision was made in light
of the current worldwide split of the denomination over issues of theology.
We take this task very seriously, asking for God’s guidance each step of the way. We
are not capable of accomplishing this task standing on our own knowledge or wisdom.
We seek God’s Word as contained in the Holy Bible to help us put a firm foundation in
place for future generations.
Scripture reference for Cornerstone Christian Church:
In Paul’l first Letter to the people of Corinth he states, “Because of God’s grace to me, I
have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But
whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any
foundation other than the one we already have--which is Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 3:
10-11.
In Acts, 4: 11-12: “For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The
stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in
no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Current Vision Statement in 2022: “Love, Fellowship, Grow and Mature in Christ.”
As a local congregation, we seek to LOVE--welcome all people, pray and care for each
other and others in our community, especially the poor and those in need.
FELLOWSHIP--spend time getting to know others and their joys & struggles in life.
Encourage & support one another. GROW--grow in faith and knowledge & wisdom of
God’s Word and how to apply it to our daily lives. MATURE: Spend time in small group
Bible studies, encourage an abiding prayer life and strive to serve God & others.
Challenge and keep one another accountable in the Christian walk. We will seek to
bring others to a lasting conviction to Jesus Christ.
Who we are...Our Core Beliefs
- First and foremost, we are sinners in need of salvation that Jesus Christ alone offers
to all through believe in Him. Scriptural references we hold--Romans 5:8 “But God
shows His love for us that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life”
- We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of both the Old and New Testament Scriptures in
their entirety, is the only divinely inspired, true, and authoritative written Word of God.
Furthermore, we believe it to be without error and relevant to all places, times and
cultures.
- Our beliefs about God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are as written in The
Apostles Creed,
- We believe in the certain return of Christ.
- We are a local, Bible-following, non-denominational Christian church. We are not
affiliated with any mainstream denomination or any other church at this time. We
believe that bringing persons to a saving relationship in Christ is best attained by laying
down and stepping aside from denominational divisions.
- We are a small but mighty group of believers in Pierce and the surrounding area who
love the Lord and desire to be a light for Him, now and for years’ to come.
Our Core Beliefs & practices further explained...
- Baptism--We baptize infants, children and persons of any age in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We ask that the Holy Spirit work within
each person, that having been born through water and the Spirit, he/she may live as a
faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.
- Holy Communion--We celebrate Holy Communion often and with joy as we
remember the night on which Jesus, God’s One & Only Son, willingly gave himself up
for us, enduring death on the cross as the perfect and sinless sacrifice for the
forgiveness of our sins and for our salvation. We remember this simple but Holy meal,
ordinary bread and wine (or juice), given by Christ himself to his disciples as a way of
communing in body and spirit with Christ and with one another as the body of Christ, the
church. We invite all believers in Jesus Christ to Christ’s table which belongs to all
people everywhere who truly repent of their sins, come humbly to the Lord, and who
seek to walk with Him.
Our history and journey...Ours has been a journey of faith. We thank God for those
who came before us, especially our United Methodist and Methodist E (evangalical or
episcopal) traditions, pastors, and servants of the Lord. They have helped shape us
and make us who we are today.
